Connecting AI assistants to EMCE (MCP)

EMCE provides a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets AI assistants read your program’s data on your behalf. Once connected, you can ask an assistant things like:

“Which students in Cohort 24 are behind on their airway skill evaluations?”
“Summarize last week’s clinical shifts and who was late clocking in.”
“How many successful pediatric patient encounters does each student have?”

The assistant answers using live data from EMCE, scoped to what you can already see.

How it works

Read-only. The server exposes only read tools. An AI assistant can never create, change, or delete anything in EMCE through it.
Your access, not more. You sign in with your normal EMCE account and pick one profile. The assistant sees exactly what that profile can see — one organization, and only the data that role may view. During the pilot, only Directors and Administrators can connect.
Your organization decides. Nothing is shared until an Administrator or Director enables MCP connections and agrees to the MCP Data Sharing Addendum. Turning it off immediately disconnects every assistant.
Sensitive text is off by default. Patient-encounter narratives and faculty notes are not shared unless your organization separately turns those options on.
Every access is logged. Each connection and tool call is recorded in an audit log.

Enabling MCP connections for your organization

An active Director or Administrator of the organization must do this once.

Go to the Settings page. If you’re using a mobile device, you may need to access this page by first tapping (menu).
Tap Organization, then Options at the bottom of the screen.
Open the Integrations tab and find the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server card.
Turn on Allow MCP connections. The MCP Data Sharing Addendum opens; scroll to the end and tap I agree.
Optionally turn on Include patient narratives and/or Include faculty notes. Each widens what is shared and re-prompts for agreement.

The card records who accepted the addendum, which version, and when. Anyone in the organization can read the current addendum from the card; only Directors and Administrators can change the settings.

Connecting your assistant

The EMCE MCP server URL is:

Use the region your organization’s EMCE account lives in — the same one you use to sign in at emce.app or ca.emce.app.

Signing in and choosing a profile

Whichever assistant you use, adding the EMCE connector opens a browser window with EMCE’s sign-in page.

Sign in with the same method you use for the EMCE app — Google, Microsoft, Apple, or email and password. If your account uses a password, your email address must be verified.
Choose a profile. If you belong to more than one organization, you’ll see each eligible Director / Administrator profile. Pick the organization you want the assistant to work with. Profiles that can’t connect (other roles, organizations that haven’t enabled MCP) aren’t offered.
Review and allow. The consent screen names the assistant that is asking, the organization, and what will be shared. Tap Allow.

You’re returned to the assistant, and the connection is ready. To connect a second organization, add the EMCE connector again and choose the other profile.

What the assistant can access

Scheduling	Events on your calendar (up to 93 days at a time) and attendance reports

Not shared, ever: billing, passwords, phone numbers, home addresses, signatures, clock-in locations, and anything from another organization.

Disconnecting

Yourself: remove the EMCE connector in your assistant’s settings. The assistant’s access ends the next time it would have refreshed (within an hour), or immediately if you also revoke it in EMCE.
Everyone in the organization: a Director or Administrator turns off Allow MCP connections in the Integrations tab.

Troubleshooting

Symptom	What it usually means
The consent screen says no profile is eligible	Your role isn’t Director or Administrator, your profile is inactive or locked, or the organization hasn’t enabled MCP connections.
The assistant says it isn’t authorized, after working before	Your organization turned MCP off, your role changed, or your profile was deactivated. Reconnect once the cause is resolved.
The assistant answers with stale counts	Progress figures come from the same report the app shows and are recomputed in the background after evaluations change. Ask again in a few minutes.
A question about another organization returns nothing	Expected — each connection is bound to one organization. Connect again and pick the other profile.
”Please try again later” for one specific kind of question	A rare server-side condition; the query works for other filters. Let EMCE Support know which question triggered it.
