Manage a Lab
Open Evaluations > Labs, select the Labs tab, and choose a Lab.
Faculty can filter the Labs list by organization unit, cohort, required course, creator, evaluator, linked event, or date range. Faculty without Lab-management permission can view Lab details and the roster but cannot change them.
Understand the tabs
Section titled “Understand the tabs”- Overview shows whether the Lab was assigned or completed, its date and description, its requirements, and any evaluation-generation notice.
- Linked Event appears to Lab managers when the Lab has a calendar event.
- Roster shows each student’s setup state and requirement progress.
Students see a different set of tabs: Overview, Your Progress, and Peers to Evaluate.
Edit the Lab title or description
Section titled “Edit the Lab title or description”Lab managers can use the edit action in the Lab header to change its title and description. For a linked Lab, EMCE also updates the calendar event’s identity.
Changes to the original Lab Template do not alter an existing Lab.
Edit the linked event
Section titled “Edit the linked event”Use Linked Event to update its date and time, duration, location, color, tags, and available attendee details.
Lab-linked events cannot be edited or deleted from the standard schedule editor. From the event viewer, faculty can use Switch to Lab View to open the Lab. Users with Lab-management permission also see Edit Lab.
Changing the Lab’s start time updates the dates on its generated evaluations and Lab-owned Sim Sessions.
Add or remove students
Section titled “Add or remove students”Student membership must be changed from the Lab’s Roster tab so the roster, linked event, and generated evaluations stay synchronized.
- Tap Add Student and select students who are not already on the roster.
- Use a student’s remove action, then enter REMOVE to confirm.
Removing a student also removes them from the linked event and deletes their in-progress Lab evaluations. Evaluations that were already submitted, approved, or rejected are preserved.
Students cannot self-sign-up for student slots on a Lab-linked event. If drop requests are enabled, a student can request removal; approving that request also updates the Lab roster.
Review and recalculate progress
Section titled “Review and recalculate progress”Expand a student on the Roster tab to review progress for every requirement. Open a requirement to see its related evaluations.
Use Recalculate for one student or Recalculate All when progress looks stale after evaluations have been changed or approved.
Retry failed generation
Section titled “Retry failed generation”The Overview can display Queued, Generating Evaluations, partial failure, or failure notices while EMCE creates evaluations.
- Tap Retry in the notice to safely requeue failed work.
- If one student shows Setup failed for this student, expand the error and tap Retry generation.
Retrying preserves evaluations and faculty edits that were already created successfully.
Edit a Lab-created Sim Session
Section titled “Edit a Lab-created Sim Session”Initial teams and facilitators are chosen when the Lab is assigned. Afterward, open the individual Sim Session to change its participants, facilitator, evaluations, or other session details. The session date remains controlled by the Lab. A View Lab action returns to the parent Lab.
Delete a Lab
Section titled “Delete a Lab”Use the delete action in the Lab header and enter DELETE when prompted.
Deleting a Lab also deletes its linked event, generated Lab, Skill, and Patient evaluations, and Lab-owned Sim Sessions. This work continues in the background after the Lab screen closes. There is no option to keep the linked event.
